What does it mean if I have a negative test result?
A negative test result means that Covid-19 genetic material was not found in your nasal cavity. False-negative test results are possible for two reasons. If a patient is reluctant to let the nasal swab get a complete sample, a false negative can occur. False negatives can also occur if the test is performed too early. The test must at minimum be 24 hours after exposure. The period in which viral genetic material will appear in a patient’s nasal cavity can vary greatly, up to 14 days.
What does it mean if I have a positive test result?
A positive test result means it is highly likely that you have Covid-19. False positives are extremely unlikely to occur.
What is the difference between each type of test?
There are two common types of Covid-19 tests: PCR and Antibody.
PCR Test (Polymerase Chain Reaction) is the only type of test that we currently offer. This is the test that is required for work, travel or protecting loved ones. It is a diagnostic test that shows if you currently have an active coronavirus infection by looking for the presence of the virus’s genetic material. It is a nasal swab. Results take 24-48 hours.
Antibody Test looks for antibodies that are made by your immune system in response to the virus. Antibodies can take days or weeks to develop, so this test will not accurately tell if you have an active coronavirus infection and are infectious.
